The import function of Dive Log Manager/Dive Log DT allows you to import either complete logbooks or only selected dives from another logbook on your desktop. You can import dive data from several different desktop logbook formats, including UDCF, MacDive, MacDiveLog, and JDiveLog, as well as other Dive Log logbooks. See below for format specific information. You have the option of "appending" these dives to your current logbook, or "merging" the dives into existing dive entries in the logbook. This feature allows you to enter data on your iPhone at the dive site, and then later on, download your dive computer and add that information to the existing logbook entry.
Under the "IMPORT" element on the left, click on the format of the data you want to import from.
Dive Log - Click the "Dive Log File" button in the upper left corner and choose the file to read data from. Once loaded, each row in the top half corresponds to one dive in the file. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
DL7 - Click the "DL7 File" button in the upper left corner and choose the DL7 format file to read data from. It should have either a "zxu" or "zxl" extension. If you would like to import more than one file at once, you can select multiple files in the file chooser popup by using the Command and Shift keys. Once all the selected files are loaded, each row in the top half of the window corresponds to one dive. Again using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook. (NOTE that Dive Log Manager/DiveLogDT does not support all of the profile formats that the DL7 specification defines)
UDCF - Click the "UDCF File" button in the upper left corner and choose the file to read UDCF data from. Once loaded, each row corresponds to one dive in the file. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
UDDF - Click the "UDDF File" button in the upper left corner and choose the file to read data from. Currently, V-Planner puts each dive in one UDDF file. Select that dive for import. After you have imported it, you can click the "UDDF File" button again to select another file. We do not currently support all of the UDDF keywords, but support all of the ones that can be generated from other logbook software.
JTrak/LogTRAK - Dive Log Manager/DIveLogDT will read information directly out of your JTrak/LogTRAK database. It is kept in a "known" location on the desktop, however you will have to give it permission to read it. The "Open Dialog" will take you to the right place, but you will have to select the correct jtrak.script file and click "OK". JTrak/LogTRAK can contain several different "logbooks" in it's database however so once you have opened the jtrak.script file, you will get a popup window to select which logbook to load dives from. Once you click "OK", the list of dives found in that logbook will show up in the top window and be ready to be imported.
Liquivision - Click the "Liquivision File" button in the upper left corner and choose the "lvd" file to read data from. Once loaded, each row in the top half corresponds to one dive in your Liquivision logbook. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row/dive that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
MacDive - The MacDive logbook information is kept in a "known" location on the desktop so the dive information is loaded at once. Use the local "Imperial/Metric" menu item to indicate whether some of the data in MacDive should be interpreted as either "Imperial" measurements or "Metric" measurements when it is ambiguous. Currently, this only applies to the Tank Size, Tank Working Pressure, and Weight fields. Once loaded, each row corresponds to one dive in the file. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
MacDiveLog - Click the "MacDiveLog File" button in the upper left corner and choose the file to read data from. Once loaded, each row corresponds to one dive in the file. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
JDiveLog - Click the "JDiveLog File" button in the upper left corner and choose the file to read data from. Once loaded, each row corresponds to one dive in the file. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
Shearwater - When this panel is selected, the application will automatically look for the default Shearwater Desktop logbook file and load the data. If you wish to use a different Shearwater logbook file, click the "Shearwater File" button in the upper left corner and choose the file to read data from. Once loaded, each row corresponds to one dive in the file. Using multiple selection if needed, select each row that you want to import or merge into your current logbook.
Suunto - Dive Log Manager/Dive Log DT can import from the MacOS Suunto DM4 software in two ways. First, it can read from the default logbook that the application uses. Second, it can import from XML files that "Suunto DM4" can export. Click whichever button corresponds to the method of import you prefer. Once the dives show up in the top window, select which ones you want to import and enter the starting dive number to import them into, and then click the import button. "Suunto DM4" puts only one dive in each XML file and so multiple dives must be imported from multiple files.
The lower half of the window shows the dives in your current logbook. If you wish to append the selected dives to your logbook, do NOT select any rows in this area and the "Starting Dive#" field will have the next available dive number loaded. If you wish to add them to the middle or beginning of the log instead, fill in the desired starting dive number into the shown field.
If you wish to merge the selected dives with existing entries in your logbook, click on the row of the starting dive to merge into and the "Starting Dive#" field will be filled in appropriately. The merging process will try to use a "common sense" approach to determine what fields to overwrite and what fields not to overwrite when merging. Generally, any data that comes from a dive computer will overwrite a field. Any data that is found only in Dive Log Manager/DT and Dive Log on iPhone will not be overwritten. Until you are more familiar with the process, we recommend that you backup your logbook before merging so that you are able to return to where you started if needed.
When you are ready to proceed, click the "Import" button. A popup window will appear to confirm your actions. You may confirm or cancel at this point.
The checkboxes shown below apply to all of the different logbook formats and will control various aspects of how the import process works.
Importing Visibility - Many logbook formats use a number or free form text field for you to enter Visibility information. In Dive Log, we (currently) use a simple 3 choice popup of either Bad, Average, or Good. These fields allow you map the number field being imported to our 3 choice popup. If these are left blank, no conversion takes place.
Importing Buddies - This checkbox instructs Dive Log Manager/DT to add a database entry for each Buddy name encountered while importing. We recommend having this checkbox set so that your statistics will be more informative and to reduce any needed editing after the import. If however the source material is not accurate or consistent in how the Buddy information was entered, you may want to not check this box and enter the buddy information manually.
Importing Locations - The first one is somewhat self explanatory. If you have location information in the logbook you are importing from, and you want Dive Log Manager/DT to ignore case when checking for an existing location in your current logbook, check this box.
The checkboxes for "Importing Locations" instruct Dive Log Manager/DT to add a database entry for theDive Sites, the Cities, or the Countries found while importing. We recommend having these checkboxes set so that your statistics will be more informative and to reduce any needed editing after the import has completed. If you would like to manually add location information on your own, after the import has taken place so that you don't end up with duplicates or the source material is not accurate, do not check these boxes.
